Key figure in the Scottish Reformation, co-author of the National Covenant
Alexander Henderson (c. 1583–1646) was a Scottish theologian and an important figure in the history of Presbyterianism. He was the principal author of the National Covenant (1638) and a leading voice in the resistance to Charles I's attempts to impose episcopacy on the Church of Scotland.
Henderson served as Moderator of the General Assembly and was instrumental in the negotiations that led to the Solemn League and Covenant with the English Parliament. He is regarded as one of the most significant figures in Scottish ecclesiastical history.
