Origins

The Hendersons of Glencoe trace their origins to the legendary figure Eanruig Mor mac Righ Neachtan — Big Henry, son of King Nechtan of the Picts. They held a privileged position in Glencoe as hereditary pipers and personal bodyguards to the chief of the MacDonalds of Glencoe (MacIan).

The Massacre of Glencoe

On 13 February 1692, government soldiers carried out the infamous Massacre of Glencoe. The Hendersons, as close allies of the MacDonalds, shared in the tragedy. Their sacrifice and loyalty remain a defining element of Henderson identity.
